Appalachian Winter

For your viewing pleasure.

I know most everyone is sick of winter by now.

I can't help but admire the beauty nature provides

with weather changes.

This is a Robin on a high tree in the woods.

Spring really can't be too far behind, can it?

There was an entire flock of meadowlarks on the lawn

the week before the snow came (sorry no photos of this).

I only see these when they are migrating in the fall and in the spring.

Merry Christmas to You

Have your self a Merry Little Christmas, now....

The tiny Nativity is about 3 inches across and 2 inches high.

My year-round sparkly star.

Santa Baby- He's a bell.

There's a teeny tiny little ceramic ball inside,

and when it hits the side, there's a tiny little

tinny tinkle bell.

Love it.

This is from our vintage Christmas tree from 1960's,

when I was little.

Absolutely Nothin'..... and A Chukar...Chukka, chukka,,, chuk!

Absolutely nothin' got done today, or rather

I did absolutely nothin' but rest.

So thought I'd do a little "wild kingdom" program.

There was a family in Arizona that recently spent two nights in the desert

in low temps, evidently in an area where people hunt for chukars.

I don't know how many people know what  chukar is.

Then I remembered a chukar that came to visit one day, and of course,

grabbed the camera.

This bird seemed very docile and tame, but it is not a pet.  It is wild.  It seemed to be

a little lost, in a way,  as it kept calling,

"Chukka, chukka, chuk....!"

It let me get quite close, while taking photos.

It's a very pretty bird, and is in the partridge family. 

I haven't seen one since that day.
